Released in 2013, this obscure EP by the Sample-Supremo The Phantom’s Revenge shows the French House genre in a different light, the EP consists of 6 tracks all with various samples from multiple films and TV shows including many from the 1979 American cult action thriller ‘The Warriors’.
The EP plays out different to a usual EP with an intro and an outro which you wouldn’t usually see on an normal EP but The Phantom’s Revenge has done well to capture the emotions and feelings in them.
Songs such as ‘Caught outside the subway by the Baseball Furies’ and ‘No more human pyramids’ successfully nail the Synthwave feel with chopped-up samples and groovy synths, this is something he has done different as he has usually stuck to the French House/Nu Disco genre but he has done tremendously in experimenting with the genre. ‘McClane is forced to crawl through yet another ventilation system’ has a violin sample from Black Ivory’s ‘Mainline’ which is chopped-up several times to make a smooth sounding infrastructure for the whole song.
This is one of his best creations to date and is without a doubt definitely worth your time and money.
